AmBev Live with i2 Transportation Solutions to Extend Mission of Environmental Responsibility, Reduce Costs and Improve Service Levels

i2 Technologies today announced that Companhia de Bebidas das Americas, or AmBev (NSE:ABV), is live with i2 transportation solutions to help it reduce logistics costs, improve service levels and extend its mission of increased environmental responsibility. AmBev selected i2’s entire suite of transportation solutions, along with the i2 Agile Business Process Platform, to help plan and manage its transportation operations throughout Latin America.

AmBev intends to use i2 solutions to help optimize deliveries and increase asset utilization, including both equipment and dock scheduling. The company can improve service levels by using i2 solutions to increase on-time delivery performance, consolidate shipments and reduce mileage, reduce damage-in-transit and gain better visibility into shipment status.

“We believe that improving our logistics operations will have a positive financial impact to our company and contribute to our mission of eco-efficient management in everything that we do,” said Danillo Gargano, AmBev’s transport director. “The logistics solutions provided by i2 makes our work more optimized and productive. We have achieved significant results in a short period of time,” said Gargano.

“Fluctuating fuel costs, market volatility, regulatory mandates and global operations with higher levels of lead-time variability all contribute to making transportation costs a greater percentage of costs of goods sold. Add to these challenges the desire to be more eco-friendly, and companies are facing pressures like never before,” said Antonio Boccalandro, i2 vice president for Latin America and consumer goods. “i2 helps companies address these challenges with solutions that deliver improved asset utilization, enhanced execution management, optimal deployment of private or dedicated assets, and more reliable delivery performance. We share AmBev’s desire for a more efficient, and greener, logistics operation and are enthusiastic about our work with them.”

About AmBev
To be “The Best Beverages Company Worldwide in a Better World.” This is the mission statement of AmBev, a publicly traded company based in Sao Paulo, Brazil, with operations in 14 of the American countries (Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Canada, Chile, El Salvador, Ecuador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela). Holding a portfolio of “stars” such the beer brands Antarctica, Brahma, Bohemia, Skol, Original, Stella Artois; the carbonated soft drinks Guaraná Antarctica, Soda, Pepsi and Sukita, in addition to the innovative soft drinks H2OH! and Guarah!, AmBev leads the ranking of Latin America’s breweries.

Renowned as one of the best companies to work for, AmBev has in its 39,000 employees – 23,000 in Brazil – its greatest strength. Therefore, AmBev continuously invests in the development and success of its people, who are encouraged to feel like company owners and think big. As a pioneer in promoting awareness campaigns about the dangers of alcohol abuse, AmBev developed the program AmBev Responsible Consumption seven years ago following the guidelines established by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Acknowledged for its management excellence, AmBev generates returns to its shareholders and ensures a sustainable performance. In 2008, AmBev achieved a sales volume of 142.9 million hectoliters of beverages and a liquid income of R$19.6 billion. In the same year, the company invested R$206 million in social and environmental actions. Some of the key results include seven plants operating with energy produced by biomass energy generation, and 23 percent reduction in water consumption over the past six years. This is proof that it is possible to combine growth and sustainability.
