CEVA Logistics, a leading global supply chain management company, today announced it provided a winning logistics program for Pirelli Tire North America (PTNA) at this year’s 47th Annual Rolex 24 at Daytona, the first and longest race in the 2009 Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series season. CEVA’s solutions for Pirelli involved pre- and post-race coordination and movement of Pirelli racing slick and racing rain tire inventory for the annual event at Daytona Motor Speedway on January 25-26, 2009. Pirelli is the exclusive tire supplier to the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series, and is responsible for providing tires to each of the racing teams in both the Daytona Prototype and Gran Turismo classes in the series.
CEVA ensured that the 10,000 + tires, consisting of both racing slick and racing rain tire types, arrived on time and were staged on site in the infield at one of the most storied racing facilities in the country, allowing Pirelli Motorsport associates to warehouse the inventory in climate-controlled tents, ready to perform during the qualifying, test runs and the 24-hour race. The logistics plan was successfully executed allowing Pirelli to focus on its paddock operation of warehousing, inventorying, selling, mounting, dismounting, balancing and inspecting the tires at a rate of up to 240 tires and wheels per hour for testing, qualifying and the 24 hour race at Daytona International Motor Speedway.
“Pirelli’s 100+ years of Motorsport heritage and success rely on the solutions to big challenges, and on the relationships we have developed over the years, including the relationship we have with CEVA Logistics,†said Rafael Navarro, Pirelli’s Director of Motorsport and Media Relations. “CEVA never let us down, proved they are a dynamic partner in overcoming the challenges a race like the Rolex 24 poses, helping us achieve a successful result at Daytona.â€
“We are honored to work with one of our key Global Tire Accounts in the US on this exciting event. CEVA provides the logistics solution, precision and flexibility to meet our customers’ needs, no matter the circumstance. To be a part of this race that saw records broken, Pirelli tires meet their ultimate challenge, and mere seconds separate the winners was a great experience†said Keith Goldsmith, CEVA’s senior vice president business development and marketing for the Americas.
